BLS/CPR for Healthcare Providers

Additional Information

This course provides healthcare professionals and other personnel who need to know how to perform CPR and other basic cardiovascular life support skills in a wide variety of in-facility and prehospital settings.
Instructor-led Training Instructors deliver both the cognitive portion of training and the psychomotor component of thorough skills practice and testing in a classroom setting. Availability is limited as we only offer 6 spots per class.  This allows for a balanced instructor to student ratio for quality instruction of the class. This is an American Heart Association certification course.

 COURSE REQUIRMENTS:

Students must perform the following in a classroom setting:

  • High-quality CPR for adults, children, and infants
  • The AHA Chain of Survival, specifically the BLS components
  • Important early use of an AED
  • Effective ventilations using a barrier device
  • Importance of teams in multirescuer resuscitation and performance as an effective team member during multirescuer CPR
  • Relief of foreign-body airway obstruction (choking) for adults and infants
  • Pass a written exam above an 84% score.

Dental Board Requirements:

A course in basic life support offered by an instructor approved by the American Red Cross or the American Heart Association, or any other course approved by the board as equivalent and that provides the student the opportunity to engage in hands-on simulated clinical scenarios.

  • Online courses will not be accepted for the BLS requirement. The course must include a live, in-person skills practice session, a skills test and a written examination.
  • BLS course must be renewed every 2 years.

Announcement

As of January 1st, 2025

Unlicensed dental assistants must successfully complete a Board-approved 8-hour infection control course before engaging in any basic supportive dental procedures that may involve exposure to blood, saliva, or other potentially infectious materials. It is the responsibility of the employer to ensure that the unlicensed dental assistant fulfills this requirement.

Unlicensed Dental Assistants are now allowed to perform coronal polishing after completion of a coronal polishing course by an approved course provider.
